Scout of the Year Program
Each year the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) of the United States recognizes individuals who are Eagle Scouts, Venturing Summit Award recipients and/or Sea Scout Quartermasters who have risen above their peers in exemplifying the qualities of that rank.
Each VFW post can sponsor one candidate who is then considered for regional and then possibly national awards were the scholarships increase in size as the selectiveness increases.
The main requirements are:
1) Have earned the Eagle Scout Rank, Venturing Summit Award or Sea Scout Quartermaster Award
and
2) Are currently a registered member of a Scouts BSA Troop, Venturing Crew or Sea Scout Ship and are 18 years old or younger.
Scouts wishing to apply through the Pennsylvania program need to reach out to a local Pennsylvania VFW post which can be found at vfw.org/FindaPost.
Cradle of Liberty Council Scouts who live in Delaware or go to school in Delaware can be submit through a Delaware VFW. Scouts wishing to be considered through the Delaware program should submit please their application and materials directly to Karlis Ulmanis at 5 Cider Mill Court, Garnet Valley, PA 19060. Karlis will get the VFW information on page 2 of the application completed for those Scouts.
Scouts should mention in their documents if they have any relatives connected to the armed services. Applications are due to the VFW posts by March 1, 2022. For Scouts who would like to take the Delaware VFW route, Karlis needs to receive the application and materials one week prior to the March 1, 2022 deadline so he can get the information to the VFW post in time for consideration.
