Largest Group of Scouts BSA Female Scouts Inducted into Unami Lodge, One, Order of the Arrow
This past weekend, Unami Lodge, One of the Order of the Arrow (OA) held an Ordeal for Cradle of Liberty Council youth and adults who qualified for the honor of OA membership. Among the 23 candidates included eight females: six youth Trailblazers and two adults. The Ordeal was an opportunity for the Trailblazers to continue along a path laid before them by the rich heritage of Scouts BSA and the Order of the Arrow. Joining them was Stephanie Marcinkowski, Chair, Cradle of Liberty Council Family Scouting Task Force, and Maria Cengel, Scoutmaster, Girl Troop 176. Felicia Menna, Scoutmaster, Girl Troop 147 served as the Elangomat for the Ordeal.
Their induction was held on the ceremonial grounds of the former Delmont Lodge 43 located in Camp Delmont, Musser Scout Reservation. The Delmont Lodge ceremonial grounds have not been used for an Ordeal since the mid-1990s.
One of the Scouts inducted is Angelina, a Life Scout who has completed her Eagle Project and is awaiting her Eagle Board of Review. She will likely be the first female Eagle Scout in the Cradle of Liberty Council.
These Scouts share much history together. Two of the Scouts first met at the Cradle of Liberty Council Scouts BSA kickoff on February 1, 2019. A Scout from Girl Troop 147 and two Scouts from Girl Troop 176 were the first female Scouts BSA youth members to camp on Treasure Island where the Order of the Arrow was founded. In addition, three of these Scouts will continue the adventure and go to Sea Base together in June 2021. Even though the female members have only been in the program for a short time, they have made a ton of memories and plan to make a ton more!
