A Scout is Thoughtful: Operation Frontliner Continues

On Monday, May 12th, leaders and Scouts from Cradle of Liberty Council and Troop 303 of Zion Baptist Church in Philadelphia gathered together at Sullivan Progress Plaza to prepare and deliver more than 500 much-needed care packages with toiletries and healthy snacks to healthcare workers at Magee Rehabilitation Hospital – Jefferson Health as part of the Council’s ongoing Operation Frontliner initiative. To learn more about how you can get involved in Scouting’s efforts to recognize and help first responders, visit colbsa.org/frontliner.
Virtual Programming
Cradle of Liberty Council is making sure that youth don’t skip a beat on their Scouting Adventures. Many of our Scouts’ favorite activities and programs are being offered virtually! Three exciting developments to our virtual Scouting include:
Online Adventures for Cub Scouts and Friends Launches: On Tuesday, May 12th, Cradle of Liberty Council launched its free, six-week Online Adventures Program, which includes a series of 30-minute interactive Zoom sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4pm as well as a weekly Facebook Live session on Fridays at 4pm, for elementary-aged youth. Topics will include internet safety, community service, emergency preparedness, physical fitness, cooking, and others. The best part is that these sessions are open to both Scouts and the general public! All sessions are recorded and can be viewed at a later time. To join the fun, visit colbsa.org/onlineadventures.
Camp-o-ree: This weekend, May 15 -16, Scouts are being encouraged to set up camp in their backyards or living rooms and partake in the Council’s first virtual camp-o-ree. The event will kick-off with a virtual campfire on Friday night and will offer 40 camping and Scouting activities such as games, trainings, and educational sessions via Facebook Live or Zoom throughout the weekend. For more information, click here.
Career Mentoring Panels: In early June, the Cradle of Liberty Council will host multiple free virtual career mentoring panels for the following career industries: STEM, Skilled Trades, Criminal Justice and Public Service, Accounting and Finance, and Business and Management. Experienced professionals will share details about their industry and current roles as well as help answer questions about working in their field. For specific dates and times of these panels, click here and scroll to “Career Mentoring Panels.”
Secure the Adventure
Cradle of Liberty Council continues its promise to youth through virtual programming as well as to the community through services projects aimed at easing the burden of the impact of COVID-19. However, the Council is facing uncertainty regarding many of its income producing activities. The Council has made the difficult decision to close in-person summer camps and many of the Council’s fundraising events are at-risk. In order to ensure that Scouting in the Cradle of Liberty Council can continue to serve the Philadelphia Area with impactful youth development programs, we have launched the Secure the Adventure Campaign, which is an 11-day fundraising campaign to ensure Scouting can continue during the stay-at-home orders and into the future as we emerge. Your contribution will make a significant impact, please consider donating at www.colbsa.org/give.
