COLBSA recently hosted a Career Development Workshop at the Roger S. Firestone Scouting Resource Center in Wayne. The full-day event was designed to help high school and college aged students, and their families, prepare for success now and later in life.
Active Scouts, Explorers, Scouting alumni, friends and family members participated in informative panel discussions with professionals from a wide range of backgrounds. Attendees learned about topics like presenting their best self, college admissions and applying for jobs. There was also an engaging presentation on “de-mystifying” financial aid.
Another highlight of the day was the STEM Career Showcase. Local business executives from the Department of Fire Protection Engineering – University of Maryland, DOW, ECRI Institute, Lockheed Martin, Tax Champs Financial Services, and Van Horn Metz and Co. prepared hands-on, interactive displays and shared pertinent industry related information.
